The Dead Poets Society was created out of necessity....
When the founding fathers painted the pictures of the hip hop lifestyle in the late 70's, there were no visions of guns and cocaine glamour, nor were there visions of exploited women and artists being killed for their craft. Afrika Bambatta and the founding fathers had a different idea; to unify ALL cultures and people with music and self expression, while providing a hype beat to move to.
5 elements- Mc'ing, DJ'ing, Beat Boxing, Break Dancing and Graffiti Art. Simple and plain. Yet the concept has been lost in swagger jacking style deliveries and overproduced noise... Until now.
4 artists have joined to create a Society dedicated to preserving the culture of true hip hop and making organic, heart driven music. The Dead Poets Society was made Official in May of 2009 after choosing the right pieces to the puzzle and creating the proper Foundation.
The members include founder Jay Flint- along with Iron Lungz, Logik and Lion-I Chase. The Dead Poets Society offer an alternative to whats going on in mainstream Hip Hop, Rap, R&B and Pop music. Honest and raw with true grit, D.P.S. are actual students of the game. With influences like Seal, Wu Tang Clan, Pearl Jam, NIN, Outkast, Bob Marley, Radiohead and The Beatles to name a few, their aim is to maintain that level of innovation and freshness while still preserving the road the Artists of the past paved.
D.P.S's members all choose to cover their face for publicity shots and press, and even at some live shows. The music and lyrics of the Society speak for themselves. The Poet's individualism is shown through their art, not their appearance. This is not for disguise purposes, but more as an incentive to focus on the Words and Sounds rather than external factors. When some of the world's Greatest artist's are named; Michaelangelo, Beethoven, Da Vinci, Monet... Not many could pick them out of a lineup if given the chance, yet most anyone can spot at least one those artist's work. The most important thing is the Art being created.... The Dead Poets Society is cut from that same cloth.
