We recently got to chat with emerging artist Cristian Valdes, and let’s just say — this guy’s brain is a beautiful, chaotic place (in the best way). His work spans digital, traditional, and straight-up experimental media — yes, even coffee — and somehow it all blends into something that feels raw, nostalgic, and super fresh.
Cristian told us he’s always been drawn to different mediums because each one speaks its own language. When digital feels too controlled, he switches to ink or acrylic. Mixed media? That’s where things get wild — textures collide, layers build, and ideas evolve. It’s less about rules and more about flow.
His love for art started young — exchanging drawings with his grandfather in Cuba. After his grandfather passed, Cristian held onto one core message: “keep making art.” That’s when it clicked. For him, it’s not just about creating something cool — it’s about connecting.
When we talked themes, he didn’t hesitate. His work often digs into identity, isolation, nostalgia, and the tension between softness and grit. A lot of the time, he doesn’t even realize how emotional a piece is until he steps back from it. His characters might look surreal, but there’s always something deeply human in them.
Process-wise, Cristian keeps it unpredictable. Sometimes a color or mood sparks an idea. Sometimes it’s a phrase or feeling. He sketches rough concepts, works in bursts, and layers until something feels right. Then he steps away, figures out what it’s actually saying, and lets the piece speak for its self.
One of his most meaningful works? A piece called “YUM.” It’s playful but twisted, nostalgic but bold — and it was the moment his style really locked in. He’s built a whole series around that vibe and is still riding that creative wave.
Oh, and yes — he paints with coffee. What started as a happy accident turned into a signature touch. The stains, the warmth, the unpredictability — it all ties back to his love for imperfect, honest expression.
Right now, Cristian’s focused on growing his art brand Brewline Arts — from prints and clothes to live shows and collabs. He’s even got a raffle coming up June 28 at Bobe Bakery, so if you’re local, you’ll want to check that out.

Cristian’s just getting started, and we’re stoked to watch him keep pushing boundaries. His art isn’t just cool to look at — it feels like something. And in a world full of filters, that kind of honesty hits different.
